Mensah Medical: Integrative Care in our Biomedical Clinic

Integrative care is our priority at Mensah Medical. We are an international biomedical clinic for patients diagnosed with autism, ADD, ADHD, OCD, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, bipolar disorder, and eating disorders. Mensah Medical treats both pediatric and adult patients suffering from depression, mood swings, pyrrole disorder, as well as methylation disorders through biochemical lab testing and individualized nutrient therapy as part of our unique and innovative integrative care.

  • What is Advanced Nutrient Therapy?

Advanced Nutrient Therapy is a fancy term for custom made nutrients. Rather than purchase vitamins and minerals at a health food store in various amounts and combinations, our patients are given a custom blend based on specific lab testing. We use various labs to determine our patient’s unique biochemical individuality and imbalances that may be affecting their behavior, mood, development, and mental well-being.

  • Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

To help educate new and existing patients with our clinic and educate them about their nutrient therapy treatment protocals, we've created an FAQ page. Learn general answers to frequently asked questions about our clinic, find links to pages you may need to download and print, find links to articles about various biochemical imbalances, and a link to our large patient resource library which is full of articles and videos on conditions we treat.

  • Our Unique Integrative Philosophy of Care

The physicians at Mensah Medical evaluate each patient’s condition and look to uncover underlying chemical abnormalities that can contribute to mental and physical disease. We look for possible physiologic, genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors that may affect each patient’s well-being. Treatment involves using individualized, prescribed Advanced Nutrient Therapy which includes vitamin, mineral, and amino acid compounds.

  • Mensah Medical Patient Resource Center

We have created an informative resource page for our patients. In this section find links to research papers, presentations, links to educational videos, downloadable PDFS, and links to additional available resources from other website sources. New patients who have completed their diagnostic testing and have received their results packages can find more information about their biochemical imbalance on this patient resource center page.

Learn about Our Biomedical Treatments

Advanced Nutrient Therapy is a fancy term for custom made nutrients. Rather than purchase vitamins and minerals at a health food store in various amounts and combinations, our patients are given a custom blend based on specific lab testing. We use various labs to determine our patient’s unique biochemical individuality and imbalances that may be affecting their behavior, mood, development, and mental well-being. Mensah Medical Clinic uses unique laboratory testing to determine each patients biochemical makeup. We then treat our patients with individualized targeted advanced nutrient therapy in a three phase approach that often leads to the reduction or elimination of prescription medications.

  • Methylation Disorders
    Methylation Disorders

The methylation cycle is a series of biochemical pathways, interdependent, and often easily misunderstood. They influence critical biological processes such as DNA maintenance, energy production, detoxification, and immune system function. When the body’s methylation pathways are out of balance 0n one level, they negatively effect neurotransmitter activity and development. When there are problems with methylation over or under production of certain neurotransmitters are often associated with dysregulated emotional states. Here at Mensah Medical we evaluate the various patterns seen with methylation disorders. Certain distinct psychiatric symptoms tend to consistently appear in overmethylated patients versus undermethylated patients.

  • Copper Overload
    Copper Overload

A significant number of women with depression or other mood imbalances have copper overload. Patients with copper overload depression tend to have high anxiety and are more likely to suffer postpartum depression in their child bearing years according to William Walsh, Ph.D., President of the Walsh Research Institute and Judith Bowman, M.D. co-founder of Mensah Medical. We typically see onset of this condition during a time in a woman’s life when she is undergoing major hormonal changes. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression and they seem to coincide with the onset of puberty, the introduction of birth control pills, pregnancy, or at the beginning of menopause, poly-cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), you should be tested for this copper overload.

  • Pyrrole Disorder
    Pyrrole Disorder

Mood instability can be caused by pyrrole disorder, which is becoming more rapidly known in the general population but is relatively unknown in the medical community. Mood instability symptoms are often labeled as anxiety disorder, rapidly cycling bipolar disorder, behavioral disorders, or depression. Pyrrole disorder is an abnormality in biochemistry where the body creates too many pyrrole molecules, and symptoms are typically most evident in toddlers and teenagers. Pyrroles have little or no function in the body. We constantly excrete pyrroles in our urine. In a typical person this is no big deal, but a person with pyrrole disorder can become deficient when too many pyrroles are being excreted.

  • Focus and Attention Syndromes
    Focus and Attention Syndromes

In our practice we treat this condition as an epigenetic disorder. People are intrinsically and extrinsically different at different points in their lifetime. Our genes can be influenced by environmental factors. This is called epigenetics. It’s not simply about the genes and not simply about the environment. Both are factors that contribute to biochemical imbalances in the brain which in turn will affect an entire person’s functional capacity. We see this with patients who have been diagnosed ADD/ADHD, or what I like to call “Focus and Attention Syndromes” (FAS). These conditions have four distinct biochemical imbalances: high copper, undermethylation, overmethylation, and yeast toxicity.
